Baby, it’s cold outside!
The Bali office of the Agency for Meteorology, Climate, and Geophysics (BBMKG – District III) forecasts that the current “cold spell” being experienced by Bali will continue until August 2025.
Bali weather forecasters attribute the chilly weather to the island’s current minimal cloud cover and low humidity during its dry season.
Quoted by NusaBali.com, the chairman of the Working Operational Group for BBMKG – Denpasar, Wayan Musteana, said on Monday, 21 July 2025, “At the very least, the lack of cloud cover allows heat to escape easily into the atmosphere due to radiation.”
What’s more, said Musteana, the low seasonal humidity causes the loss of nature’s natural protective cover that can conserve ground temperatures over the nighttime hours. “This phenomenon,” he added, “strengthens the chilling effect of the nighttime period that drastically hastens declining temperatures until sunrise.”
Based on analysis performed by BBMKG-Denpasar, the current dry season in Bali is influenced by eastern monsoonal winds that originate on the Australian continent. The seasonal winds are both dry and cold, resulting in the current cold spell being experienced in several regions of Indonesia, including Bali.
In recent days, Bali has experienced average cold temperatures, ranging from 19 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours to a high midday average of 31 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, on a national level, the BMKG had earlier stated that many areas of Indonesia have begun to experience the cyclical dry season, which is expected to pave the way for extreme weather phenomena.
.
As of June 2025, approximately 30% of Indonesia’s climate zones have commenced their respective dry seasons. BMKG is forecasting a shorter-than-usual dry season with cumulative rainfall totals above average.
