Breaking News At Least 2 Dead as Fast Ferry Capsizes at Sanur Cruise Terminal

A fast transfer boat operating between Nusa Penida and the New Ferry Port on Sanur Beach capsized on the afternoon of Tuesday, 05 August 2025, resulting in the loss of life.

BaliPost.com, quoting Nyoman Sidakarya, who is heading the search and rescue effort, reports that the inverted Bali Dolphin Cruise 2 was still in the process of being evacuated at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, with two Mainland Chinese tourists confirmed dead and one Balinese crew member missing.

Preliminary reports say 75 passengers and 5 crew were traveling on the fast boat at the time of the incident, with authorities unable to provide an immediate casualty count. Officials have confirmed that most of the passengers traveling on the boat were foreign tourists.

Two Chinese nationals, both men, have died in the incident. Shio Guo Hong (20) and Hanqing Yu (37) reportedly died at the scene, with their bodies brought to the nearby Bali Mandara Hospital in Sanur. A crew member identified as Kadek Adi Jaya Dinata (32) is missing. Dinata was below deck at the time of the mishap and is now listed as missing.

The head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Team, I Nyoman Sidakarya, confirmed there were 80 souls on board the boat at the time of the accident, comprising 75 passengers and five crew. Of the 75 passengers, 73 were reported as foreign nationals and 2 Indonesian citizens.

When the incident occurred, the ship was ending a sea voyage from Nusa Penida and preparing to berth at the Sanur Port when it was struck from behind by a 2-4 meter wave, causing the vessel to capsize. The ship capsized near the red and green navigation buoys marking the entrance to the Port of Sanur. Port officials have affirmed that the ship was in a seaworthy state and carrying passengers and crew numbers in keeping with its official certification.

Following the incident, officials declared the port closed to shipping until further notice.

The Head of the Benoa Port Authority (KSOP), Aprianus Hangki, said the 73 foreign nationals traveling on the Bali Dolphin Cruise 2 originated from the PRC (China), USA, Australia, UK, Poland, Greece, Japan, India, Italy, France, Singapore, and South Korea.

As the sun set in Bali, a combined team from the East Denpasar Police Precinct, the Denpasar Water Police, Bali Search and Rescue Workers, and Bali lifeguards (Balawista) were on the scene of the sinking, cooperating to provide emergency assistance.
