Beritabali.com reports that the Municipality of Denpasar, Bali, plans to open a 25-kilometer long bike path to encourage more environmentally forms of transportation.
I Ketut Sriawan, the head of Denpasar’s Transportation Department, revealed the bike path plans saying the routes would be integrated with public transport, such as the Trans Metro Dewata Bus service.
Sriawan said that public interest in cycling has increased during the COVID-19 Pandemic, especially since the Denpasar Government’s closure of weekend car-free days to maintain social distancing protocols. For these reasons, the Government has decided to create a network of cycling paths.
The first phase of a 25-kilometer bicycle path network will be constructed in 2021, starting from the Dharma Negara Alaya Cultural Center near Lumintang Park to Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Maruti, Jalan Sutomo and continuing to Jalan Gajah Mada. Plans also call for establishing a bus stop for the Metro Dewarta System to connect with bicycle users.
The next phase of the bicycle path system will continue from Jalan Gajah Mada to Jalan Kapten Agung, Jalan Cok Agung Tresna, Jalan Moh Yamin, Jalan Puputan, Jalan Hang Tuah and onward to Sanur Beach. The path will then return to Dharmanegara Alaya passing Jalan Hang Tuah, Puputan Field, Jalan Diponegoro, Jalan Hasanuddin, and Jalan Setia Budi before returning to Dharmanegara Alaya.
The first phase of creating the bike path system will begin in November 2020.
