At the consulate’s opening, Ambassador Abdykarimov said, “The opening of the Bali Consulate proves how seriously Kazakhstan views Bali and the rest of Indonesia. We thank the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has agreed to the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Bali.”

Abdykarimov continued that Bali was chosen as the location of an honorary consulate due to its strategic location and popularity as a tourist destination for Kazakh tourists.

Arrival statistics reveal that for the year 2023, nine thousand Kazakstanis visited Bali, increasing to 18,000 in 2024,

In addition to the demands of tourism, the opening of the Kazakhstani Honorary Consulate in Denpasar will also improve economic, educational, commercial, and investment cooperation between Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

“I hope we can bring investors from Kazakhstan to Bali and Balinese investors to Kazakhstan. Balinese who have not seen the beauty of Kazakhstan can also visit our country,” said Ambassador Abdykarimov. Meanwhile, the new Honorary Consul for Kazakhstan in Bali, Putu Winastra, stated that he was prepared to communicate closely with various parties, including tourism players from Kazakhstan.

“Bali is known as an international tourism destination. The number of Kazakhstani tourists coming to Bali is on the increase, making the establishment of a consulate important to provide a sense of companionship and degree of comfort to Kazakhstani tourists visiting Bali,” said Winastra.

“Through the establishment of the consulate, communication with Kazakh tour operators will become easier. We also plan to undertake sales missions to Kazakhstan and countries of the Middle East to promote Bali, while at the same time introducing the natural beauty of Kazakhstan to Indonesian travelers,” said Winastra.

However, he continued, the challenge and future opportunity for tourism lies in flight connectivity between Kazakhstan and Bali. Currently, there are no direct flights from Astana Airport in Kazakhstan  to Bali. Imagine, that even without direct flights, the number of visitors is already high; if there were better connectivity, the numbers would definitely increase,” Winastra explained.

Winastra said the possibility of opening charter flights from Kazakhstan to Bali remains open.

“However, this must be a two-way street. While this brings tourists to Bali, we also need to encourage Indonesian tourists to visit Kazakhstan. This is both a challenge and an opportunity that must be worked on together by the private sector and the government,” he emphasized.

Winastra described the demographics of Kazakh tourists, who spend an average of 7-10 days in Bali. “They enjoy nature, beaches, lakes, and staying in star-rated hotels. With such a busy schedule, Kazakh tourists’ spending is quite high,” said the ASITA chairman and new honorary consul.
