The Australian Government has issued a specific travel warning for its citizens planning to holiday in Bali.
Updated on 4 June 2025, the latest warning advises Australian travelers to “exercise a high degree of caution” when visiting Bali.

The wide-ranging warning mentions:
- Exercise caution when swimming in Bali, as the waters can be rough, and strong rip currents are present. Many beaches in Bali are unpatrolled.
- To understand visa conditions and the strict conditions in force when entering and exiting the Country. Minor damage, including small rips and tears, to a passport can result in refused entry and soon be on a quick trip back to Australia.
- For Australian travelers to be on their best behavior in Bali. Offensive acts “that fail to respect local culture, religion, place of worship, and traditional ceremonies can lead to criminal penalties and/or deportation.”
- “Drinks served in night spots “may be spiked or mixed with toxic substances.” Australian travelers are warned not to leave food and drink unattended. “Cases of methanol poisoning in drinks have been reported in Indonesia, including Bali and Lombok.”
Summarizing, the official Australian Website tells Australians to “Exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia overall due to security risks.”
