SERENADE: An Evening of Singing Strings  in Support of Be Sharp Bali

SERENADE – An Evening of Singing Strings will be held on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at the Plumeria Ballroom, Padma Resort Legian Bali, at 5:00 pm   

A memorable musical evening featuring an artistic collaboration between:

  • The Bali Chamber Music Players (BCMP)
  • Gia Jashvilli (violin)
  • Riana Heath (violin)
  • Asep Hidayat (cello)
  • Lia Veronika (guitar). 

Be Sharp Bali

Proceeds from this special evening of classical music will be in aid of Be Sharp Bali – a non-profit organization dedicated to providing music education for children. Be Sharp Bali offers free music lessons and instrument loans to children while championing the Suzuki Method. This educational philosophy holds that every child can learn and reach their full potential in a nurturing environment, supported by family and community.

In spirited support of this mission, the Bali Chamber Music Players is a group of devoted classical musicians living on the island who work to enrich Bali’s cultural landscape through high-quality classical performances. Comprised of students, educators, and professional musicians, BCMP performs a diverse repertoire ranging from well-loved standard works to contemporary compositions. 

Serenade 

Inspiring with the theme of “Serenade,” the evening will present a repertoire of lyrical and romantic works. Musical highlights of the evening’s program include:

  • Dvořák’s String Quartet No. 12 in F Major
  • Op. 96 “American Quartet” performed by Gia Jashvilli, Therese Wirakesuma, Riana Heath, and Asep Hidayat.  Written during Dvořák’s stay in America, this bravura performance features familiar melodies, including the second movement of “Bohemian blues,” the lively birdsong of the Scarlet Tanager in the scherzo, and a finale driven by energetic syncopated rhythms.
  • Serenade for Strings, Op. 11 by Dag Wirén
  • Short serenades by Malcolm Arnold featuring guitar soloist Lia Veronika.
  • Works by Toselli and Astor Piazzolla. 

About the featured artists . . .

Gia Jashvilli – Violin

Austrian violinist Gia Jashvili also derives from ethnic Georgian ancestry, making him a young man who naturally embraces both Eastern and Western European musical traditions. Jashvili brings to his performances the bold, expressive intensity of the Russian violin school, blended seamlessly with the refined clarity and elegance of the Viennese musical traditions. He is a musician who combines technical brilliance with nuanced artistry.

Gia Jashvilli

During his career, Gia has collaborated musically with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Bernard Haitink, Simon Rattle, and Pietari Inkinen, the musical director of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. His chamber music partners have included  Lily and Misha Maisky, Zsófia Boros, Joshua Bell, and Ivry Gitlis.

Beginning in 2006, Gia Jashvili accepted an invitation from maestro Lorin Maazel to assume the role of Concertmaster at the recently established Opera House Valencia. There, Gia collaborated closely with opera luminaries such as Plácido Domingo, performing an iconic production of Richard Wagner’s *Ring Cycle* with Zubin Mehta.

Gia has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Asep Hidayat Wirayudha – Cello

Asep Hidayat Wirayudha is an accomplished artist whose repertoire ranges from Renaissance to contemporary music. Asep at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta, under Rene Berman (Netherlands). He also took a master class with Janos Starker and Miklos Perenyi in 1999. He completed his master’s performance in 2020 at Osaka Kyoiku University, Japan. He has completed a doctoral degree in musical performance.

Asep Hidayat Wirayudha

​Asep has performed in over 100 cities in Indonesia, the Netherlands, Thailand, Japan, China, and Australia. 

He has appeared on stage with the Heinrich Schultz Ensemble in Osaka, the Australian Virtuoso Ensemble, and at the  Cassal Festival. Career highlights include appearing with 1000 international cellists in Kobe, Japan. Closer to home, he has collaborated with the traditional Javanese instrument, ‘Gender’.

​Asep has worked as a cello tutor for the Asean Youth Orchestra in Bangkok, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta. He was also a member of the jury of the Azerbaijan Music Competition, both for solo and chamber music (2013), and the Chiang Mai Ginastera International Music Festival and Competition (2017). Since 2010, Asep has served as the Artistic Director of Yogyakarta International Chamber Music Festival. Currently, he is a faculty member of the Music Performance Department at ISI Yogyakarta.

Riana Heath – Violin

A concert violinist and music educator with over a decade of teaching experience, Riana Heath is known for being innovative and open-minded; a daring individual with a pronounced thirst for adventure and challenges. Riana is an enthusiastic music educator eager to instill a love of music, as well as instrumental techniques and performance experience, in her students at every level.

Riana Heath is an American-Javanese musician who began her violin studies at the age of 6 at the Moscow Conservatory. She continued her music studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg under Wonji Kim-Ozim and is completing her Bachelor of Arts in performance for Violin and Viola under Prof. Lily Francis and Prof. Thomas Riebl. At a young age, Riana had performed concerts in Europe and North America and won many national and international competitions. 

Putu Lia Veranika – Guitar

Since graduating from the Indonesian Institute of Arts (ISI) in Yogyakarta in 2017, Putu Lia Veranika has taught classical guitar, piano, and ukulele to students of various ages. 

In 2021, Lia received a full scholarship from the Austrian government to study classical guitar at Mozarteum University Salzburg for 9 months with Prof. Isabel Siewers.

On 07 December in Bali, participants will also be treated to a special performance by the children of Be Sharp Bali, showcasing their progress and dedication.
