Weather Warning: As reported by BaliPost.com, Cahyo Nugroho, the head of the Bali Branch of the Meteorology, Climate, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), is warning that several beach areas of Bali may experience coastal flooding between 09 and 12 July 2025.
A formal press announcement from BMKG-Bali specified that the following seven areas in Bali could be subject to coastal flooding:
- The southern region of Jembrana Regency
- The southern beaches of Tabanan Regency
- Badung Regency
- The beach areas of Denpasar
- The coastal areas of Gianyar Regency
- The southern beaches of Klungkung Regency
- The southern beaches of Karangasem Regency
The at-risk during 09 to 12 July coincides with the “new” phase of the moon, when accompanied by unusually high tides.
Cahyo said the potential of coastal floods will vary by region, depending on the timing of “high tide.” These high tidal conditions typically affect the loading and unloading of ships in port, beachside activities, and coastal salt harvesting.
The local BMKG Chief is calling on the public to be on guard and aware of the threat of coastal flooding. This can be done by becoming familiar with the tide tables for their area and the continuous online updates available from BMKG-Denpasar.
Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer of Bali’s Disaster Management Agency (BPBD-Bali), Gede Teja, said coastal flooding occurs due to “the gravitational pull” of the Moon and Sun affecting the Earth’s rotation. The interaction of the Sun and a Full Moon phase causes higher-than-normal high tides. This situation, particularly when it happens in combination with bad weather and high waves, can wreak havoc on beachside businesses and residences.
Teja wants the public to be on the alert, taking precautions to mitigate any potential disaster.
Teja said the government has taken preemptive steps to mitigate potential disaster by installing breakwater barriers in areas at particularly high risk. BPBD is on standby to assist evacuation efforts, if it is decided such steps are warranted.
