2 Brits Face Possible Execution for Smuggling Cocaine into Bali

Two UK nationals, Kial Wilkinson and Piran Ezra, were arrested by Indonesia’s Narcotic Enforcement Agency (BNNP) on Sunday, 03 August 2025, while they were actively involved in a transaction involving 1,321 grams of cocaine.

Quoted by detik.com, a chief investigator with the BNNP-Bali, Tri Kuncoro, told a press conference on Tuesday, 09 September 2025, that Wilkinson was arrested on 03 August 2025 following an X-ray inspection of his luggage at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Kuncoro said Wilkinson was ordered to smuggle the drugs by a Spanish national named Santos and then hand them to Piran Ezra.

Police said Ezra was staying at a villa in Kerobokan, North Kuta. BNNP officials escorted Wilkinson to the villa during the arrest of Ezra. At the Villa, Ezra tried to take possession of a Wilkinson’s bag containing the cocaine.

Tri Kuncoro alleged that Wilkinson, Ezra, and Santos were mutual acquaintances who knew each other from periods of residence in Spain and Thailand. Santos reportedly offered Wilkinson and Ezra US$5,000 each to distribute the drugs in Bali.

Santos continues to be sought by police internationally. BNNP authorities believe that Wilkinson, Ezra, and Santos are part of an international drug syndicate.

The two UK nationals now face Indonesia’s strict anti-narcotics laws and a potential maximum penalty of death before a firing squad.
