Bali’s capital, Denpasar, and the Regency of Badung suffered heavy flooding across widespread areas, resulting from heavy rains that began to fall on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, and continued into the following day.
Extensive property damage, to an amount still uncalculated, resulted from flood damage suffered by places of business, private residences, and vehicles. Several residents went missing in the flash floods, with a search and rescue mission now underway.
As reported by radarbali.com and prominently shown on social media, major roadways were completely submerged. Bali’s two underpass roadways, located near the entrance to .
During the height of the flooding, both underpasses were closed to all traffic, with traffic diverted over alternate routes. Meanwhile, eight water pumps were employed to drain the underpasses in an effort to restore normal traffic operations.
As reported by Balipost.com, the flooding of the two major underpass roadways in West Dempasar is blamed on the Tukad Badung overflowing its riverbanks. The resulting road closure brought traffic to a near standstill and delayed the movement of passengers departing or arriving on the Island via Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.

While virtually all areas of South Bali were afflicted by flooding, the worst instances were situated in West Denpasar.
On Jalan Pulau Misol, west of Jalan Teuku Umar, flooding was first noticed at 3:00 am. Only one hour later, hip-high and even deeper flood waters had encroached upon homes and boarding houses in the area.
Cars parked along the roadways in Denpasar became submerged to window-level, with several vehicles self-launching into the swift currents on flooded streets,
Flooding also resulted in limited access to other area roads, including Jalan Sulawesi and Jalan Maruti in Kampung Jawa, North Denpasar.
Rivers transecting Denpasar saw water overflow their banks and, in some cases, touch the bottom of bridge spans. Houses standing on the edge of waterways surrendered to the fast-flowing floodwaters with only their rooflines visible above the waterline. The foundations of some structures were undermined, causing a three-story shop building on Jalan Sulawesi to collapse.
The fallen structure was believed to have been unoccupied at the time of its collapse, preventing the incident from claiming any victims.
Meanwhile, there are reports that nine people, including two children, perished in Denpasar’s flash flooding along either side of the Tukad Badung channel.
The heavy rains also affected the Tabanan Area of West Bali, causing significant flooding to housing areas at Lembah Sanggulan and Deda Banjar Anyar, Kediri. In Tabanan, an overflowing river destroyed three homes, one boarding house, and one warung.
The entire contents, including personal belongings and clothing, from the homes were destroyed or carried away by the fast-flowing flood waters. Fortunately, residents were able to move their families and pets to safety.
Winaldi Nawir, the chairman of the Bantaran Sunga Dati Homeowners Association, told Balipost.com that damage was recorded in the following housing estates: Gang Mawar Dua, Mawar Indah, Nakula, Panorama, Alam Sari, Lembah Sanggulan, and Taman Pertiwi.
Winaldi said the latest flooding was much worse than the past floods, with waters reaching waist height. Adding: “We have already sent a proposal to bill dike and retaining walls at an estimated cost of Rp. 34 million, but have yet to receive an official response.”
Officials of the Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the police. Armed Forces and community volunteers remain on standby at critical junctures in Denpasar and Badung Regency to perform lifesaving and emergency evacuation duties.
The Head of Bali’s Meteorology, Climate, and Geophysics Agency (BKMG) said the possibility of more rain will persist for the coming days. As a result, the public is advised to monitor the BMKG Bali Website.
