Bali to Unify Benoa Port & Bali Airport?

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thorir has announced his desire to create a new intermodality hub on the Island of Bali by physically connecting the Yacht and Cruise Port of Benoa in South Bali with Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Plan to Unite Bali’s Port of Benoa and Ngurah Rai Airport

As reported by Kompas.com, Thorir believes that Indonesian tourism would be boosted by connecting Bali’s increasingly modern port facility at Benoa with the Island’s Airport.

“In Changi (Singapore), people disembark an airplane and can connect directly to the airport. This is also the case in Hong Kong. In Bali, people still need to use a bus. This is what we want to remedy.”

Pointing to Singapore as an example of airport-port intermodality, Thoir said: “In Changi (Singapore), people disembark an airplane and can connect directly to the airport. This is also the case in Hong Kong. In Bali, people still need to use a bus. This is what we want to remedy.”

Minister Thorir is optimistic that Indonesian tourism will be advanced if the Ngurah Rai Airport and the Port of Benoa are connected. “We are an archipelagic nation. Why can’t we become a super-hub? This is what we want to do. A person can join a cruise in Bali and then travel around stopping in Manado, Labuan Bajo, and other places. Why do people need to go to another country before coming to us?
