Indian Tourists Unpunished After Aggressively Pilfering a Hotel Room in Ubud, Bali

Kompas.com reports the shameless pilfering of their room at the Asvara Resort Ubud – a luxury villa in Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali, by a group of Indian tourists that was widely exposed on social media.

The video, uploaded to the Internet, shows a hotel staff member inspecting the contents of a guest’s suitcase during checkout. Suspected of trying to abscond with hotel furnishings and amenities, the hotel staff can be seen checking the contents of a guest’s suitcase. Inside the suitcase, items such as hotel towels and other supplies were discovered.

The four Indian tourists checked in at the resort on 16 April 2026 and stayed for 3 nights.

A spokesman for the Gianyar Police, I Gusti Ngurah Suardita, stated that the incident occurred at the Asvara Resort Ubud, Banjar Ayah, Kelusa Village, Payangan District, Gianyar. Suardita said the incident occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at around 10:00 am.

”Information from the hotel, the guests are four foreign nationals from India who have been staying since April 16, 2026, by booking two rooms,” said Suardita on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.

The incident was discovered during the check-out process. Housekeeping officers found a number of room facilities not in their places. “Items reported missing include coasters, bath towels, pool towels, hair dryers, kimonos, doormats, television remote boxes, and cutlery,” said Suardita.

Hotel staff reported the loss to hotel management, who then delayed the check-out process to seek further clarification from the guests. During the process, the guests reportedly admitted to having taken the items without permission. They also apologized to the hotel. “The issue was then resolved amicably. All the stolen items were returned, and the hotel decided not to pursue legal action,” Suardita concluded.
