The Government of Timor-Leste has generously donated Rp. 41 billion – a sum equivalent to around US$2.5 million – in flood relief for the Island of Bali.
As reported by Kompas.com, emergency aid for Bali was decided upon at an extraordinary National Ministerial Meeting held in Dili on Friday, 12 September 2025. The aid grant to Bali was an initiative proposed by Timor-Leste’s Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
Tatoli, the National News Agency of Timor-Leste, reports that the formal statement from the Timor-Leste Government said: “The Council of Ministers has stated their solidarity with the people of Bali, the government of Indonesia, and the authorities for the Province of Bali, which has been affected by the recent floods.”
The humanitarian aid from Timor-Leste to Bali is all the more remarkable given that the provider is one of the newest nations in the world and ranks #152 among 193 countries worldwide in terms of wealth.

The 24-hour period of flooding that caused deaths and destruction on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, is widely regarded as the worst natural disaster to affect Bali in recent decades. Damage in the flood area is still being assessed, property damage is estimated to be in the billions of rupiahs, and an estimated 22 people are killed or missing. The flooding is linked to demolished homes and businesses, impassable roads, vehicle damage, and landslides in 123 locations across the city of Denpasar and the regencies of Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, Klungkung, Karangasem, and Jembrana.
