The Head of the East Denpasar Police Precinct, Commissioner Nyoman Darsana, recently treated five young men from Sidoarjo, East Java, to meatball soup (Bakso) while they were under police detention.
As reported by Beritabali.com, the five young men traveled to Bali by hitching rides on the back of tracks destined for Bali.
The group arrived in Bali on Sunday, 25 February 2024.
The Silver Men
The morning after arriving in Bali, the men appeared at a busy intersection wearing only short pants with their bodies painted head-to-toe in silver to raise their visibility and quest for donations.
On Monday morning, 26 February, after managing to collect Rp. Fifty thousand in donations, the five young men were apprehended by Community Watch Officers (Satpol PP) near Simpang Biaung, East Denpasar,, where they were sleeping “rough” due to the lack of accommodation. The men were reportedly begging for money from people passing by.
The head of the East Bali Precinct said that the Police are focused on law enforcement while providing solutions to community members in difficult circumstances. “We try to provide the best solution for those facing difficulties,” he explained.
Four days after their apprehension, it is unclear if the five men remain in police custody.
