Bali Air Passengers Up 182% in Jan. 2022

Balipost.com and RadarBali.com report that Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded a significant increase in passenger traffic in January 2022 compared to the same month one year before.

January 2022 saw 598,971 passengers traveling on 4,840 flights arrive and depart from Bali’s sole airport. With the rare exceptions of those traveling on charter and private aircraft, the movement of passengers and flights were overwhelmingly domestic passengers originating or departing another Indonesian airport.

The busiest day at Bali’s airport was on 02 January 2022, when 16,084 passengers departed Bali. Meanwhile, the greatest number of passenger arrivals occurred on 28 January 2022, when 24,664 landed in Bali. 

These two dates coincide with movements related to the traditional New Year and Chinese Lunar New Year travel surges.

Commenting on the numbers, Hery A.Y. Sidkado, the general manager of the State-owned airport management company, PT Angkasa Pura I, said: “Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport experienced increases of 182% in passenger numbers and 35% in aircraft movements compared to the same month one year before – January 2021.

When examined in terms of month-to-month traffic, January 2022 saw an 11% decline in passenger number and a 10% decline in flights compared to the previous month of December 2021.
